Training Program on Production of Value Added Fish Products

Under the National Agricultural Development Programme scheme entitled “Kayalagam” – The Future Store for Amplification of Marketing of Diversified Fish Products in Tamil Nadu, a training program was conducted for the womenfolk of BHEL Township on 24 th April 2019. The training program on Production of Value-added Fish Products held at Fish Processing Incubation Facility, College of Fisheries Engineering, Nagapattinam. Nearly 10 participants benefitted from this training programme.

The Co-Principal Investigator, Dr. P. Karthickumar welcomed the gathering. The Dean In-charge Dr. N. Manimehalai, College of Fisheries Engineering, Nagapattinam, inaugurated and also gave the presidential address on the need for the value added fish products and the various products that are available. Furthermore, she also took a lecture on the Retort Processing and the necessity of Ready to Eat Products present in the market.

The trainees were shown around the facilities available in the centre and the utilization of those were explained. They also had hands on training in preparing Ready-to-Eat Prawn curry using Retort processing. In addition to that, they also had practical exposure on pasta preparation using a cold screw extruder.

A brainstorming session was also conducted at the end of the programme and both the Dean In-charge and the Co-Principal investigator participated in this session. The program was coordinated by Dr. P. Karthickumar and A. Hozen Ricchie Rose.
