A training program on Disaster Management was organised for the fisherfolk of Keechankupam, Nagapattinam on June 08, 2019. The programme was coordinated by Tamil Nadu Disaster Management Team in hand with the College of Fisheries Engineering, Tamil Nadu J. Jeyalalitha Fisheries University, Nagapattinam. This training was conducted in the venue of the Fish Processing Incubation Facility, College of Fisheries Engineering, Tamil Nadu J. Jeyalalitha Fisheries University, Nagapattinam.
On this occasion, the welcome address was presented by Dr. N. Manemehalai from College of Fisheries Engineering, Nagapattinam. The presidential address was given by the District Project Officer, l. Umamaheswari. In which both of them welcomed the Trainer (Disaster Management), Mr. G. Anandkumar and also the Village Cluster Officer, S. Christina. Furthermore, they welcomed Rajendaran Nattar, the Village Administrative Officer Mr. S. Veeramani, the Head of FD 23 Seafood Fishermen Cooperative Society Mr Amudesh, Fisherwomen Cooperative Society V. Ilavarasi, Secretary Ravichandran and the Panchayatar K. Nagaraj, N. Deysingu and Shanmugam. In addition to this, The District Project Officer spoke about the benefits and the importance of the disaster management training program along which she also advised them to spread this knowledge with others.
Mr. Rajendaran Nattar of Keechankuppam addressed the gathering regarding the efforts that the Panchayat takes on the safety measures and also about the concern that they have towards the environment. Mr. G. Anandkumar gave a presentation regarding the safety measures and the immediate necessities that are to be carried out during the disaster. Mr. Jeyakumar, the Station Safe and Fire Officer, explained them regarding the need to know these safety measures and also demonstrated the actions that are to be taken using the limited sources available at that time with which he also taught how to carry the injured individuals by various techniques.
There were more than 50 fisherfolk individuals who benefitted from this training program.
