Two-day Webinar on “MATLAB Fundamentals and its Applications in Fisheries” was
organised by College of Fisheries Engineering on 11 th & 12 th February, 2021. The inaugural
session was headed by Dr. N. Manimehalai, Professor, Department of Fish Processing
Engineering. The aim of workshop is to expose the students of B.Tech (Fisheries
Engineering) final year students and M.Tech (Aquacultural Engineering) & (Fish Processing
Engineering) to the use of MATLAB and its applications in the field of Fisheries. The resource
person Mr. D. Raj Kumar, Engineer Engineer-(Technical Support-Math Works), Design Tech
Systems Pvt. Ltd, Chennai has given training to the participants of this two-day programme.
The students were introduced to MATLAB programming environment and the four frames of
MATLAB window. Students were then acquainted with the various toolboxes of MATLAB and
real time applications of MATLAB, introduction of the basic commands, built-in constants
and functions. The students were familiarized with operations on vectors, matrix, arrays and
special arrays. The students were also given hands on training in MATLAB Programming. On
the second day, knowledge about generation of signals in MATLAB, Statistical analysis,
Image processing, IoT based remote monitoring system, Deep Learning, Computer vision,
Supervised learning etc on MATLAB were also provided to the students> The entire session
was very interactive and the students were demonstrated with various programs related to
image processing. Through this workshop the students were able to explore the impact of
MATLAB in the industry and Academics. This programme is coordinated by Er. D. Babiyola,
Assistant Professor, and Dr. M. Kamalakannan, Assistant Professor.
