In commemoration of TNJFU Foundation day on 19th June 2021, a National virtual seminar entitled “Recent trends Problem focus and Possible Solutions in Vannamei farming (RPPS’21)” was conducted at TNJFU Headquarters, Nagapattinam. The major theme of the national seminar was focused on vannamei shrimp farming to create awareness among shrimp farmers amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. During the inaugural session Prof.G. Sugumar, Vice Chancellor, TNJFU, Nagapattinam presented the status of vannamei shrimp farming in India and emphasized the need of adopting newer technologies with lower production costs by the shrimp famers in vannamei farming to attain profits in the Covid-19 scenario. The invited speakers from various parts of India viz., Mr. Ravi Kumar Yellanki, Managing Director, Vaisakhi Bio-Marine Pvt Ltd., Dr.Manoj M Sharma, Director, Mayank Aquaculture Pvt. Ltd, Surat. Gujarat, Dr.A.S. Shahul Ameed, OIE Expert & FNAAS, C.Abdul Hakeem College, Melvisharam, OIE Reference Laboratory for WTD, Mr.B.Ravikumar, Technical General Manager, Growel Feeds Pvt Ltd, Andhra Pradesh, India and Mr.V.R.Mansingh, Vice President, CP Aquaculture India Pvt. Ltd, Chennai presented on status of vannamei farming, selection criteria for vannamei seeds, present status of diseases in vannamei farming and their preventive measures, multiphase shrimp farming, problems expected in vannamei farming during winter crop and possible solutions to overcome and newer technologies in vannamei farming. A total of 84 farmers participated from different parts of the State and other states viz., Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Bihar and Pondicherry. Th.T. Anand, Assistant Professor and Head, Department of Fisheries Science and Dr.D. Kesavan, Assistant Professor and Head Department of Basic sciences, College of Fisheries Engineering served as organising secretaries for the programme.
