National Fish Farmers Day 2020 celebrated at Dr.M.G.R FC&RI, Ponneri

India celebrates the National Fish Farmers Day on July 10th every year in memory of the renowned fish breeder, Dr. Hiralal Choudhary who pioneered the breeding of carps, the major varieties of freshwater fish in the country in the sixties. The day was celebrated on 10th July at the Dr.MGR Fisheries College and Research Institute, Ponneri.

The Dept. of Aquaculture and Dept. of Fisheries Extension, Economics and Statistics of the college jointly organized a meeting in ‘hybrid event webcast’ mode through ‘Google Meet’ platform on the theme of ‘Innovations in Sustainable Aquaculture’. The meeting began at 11.00 am with the inaugural address of Dr. B. Ahilan, Dean of the institute. The meeting had three technical lectures delivered by Dr. S. Selvaraj (Novel methods in fish breeding), Assistant Professor, Dept. of Aquaculture; Thiru. T.L.S. Samuel Moses (Recent advancements in RAS), Assistant Professor, Dept. of Aquaculture; Dr. R. Jayaraman (Schemes for fisheries development), Professor & Head, Dept. of Fisheries Extension, Economics & Statistics. The meeting in ‘hybrid event webcast’ maode had 15 faculty of the Institute as offline participants (following Govt. regulations on COVID-19 social distancing) and 135 online participants comprising students of the college and fish farmers. Dr. Lloyd Chrispin C, Assistant Professor coordinated the meeting. Dr. C.B.T. Rajagopalasamy, Prof.& Head, Dept. of Aquaculture proposed the vote of Thanks.
