National Fish Farmers Day Celebration

National Fish Farmers Day 2022 was celebrated at the Seminar Hall of Dr. M.G.R. Fisheries College and Research Institute, Ponneri on 11.07.2022. Dr. Cheryl Antony, Professor and Head, Department of Aquaculture welcomed the gathering and farmer speakers of the day. She also highlighted on the importance of observing fish farmers day. Dr. P. Chidambaram, Professor, Department of Aquaculture delivered a talk on role and facilities of TNJFU and Dr. M.G.R FC&RI, Ponneri on supporting fish farming activities. He also highlighted on ongoing research activities in TNJFU centers. The farmer speakers, Mr. Kumaran from Kattupally and Mr. Elaiyan from Pazhverkadu spoke elaborately on their experiences in shrimp farming and mud crab farming, respectively. Mr. Kumaran shared the technical and commercial problems in shrimp broodstock purchase and seed production and emphasized on the great need of qualified professionals to work in the sector. Mr. Elaiyan indicated the problems in crab fattening and on importance of crab fattening as an enterprise. Dr. S. Selvaraj, Assistant Professor proposed the vote of thanks thanking the organizer and guest speakers of the day. He also thanked the student participants. Dr. S. Selvaraj and Dr. V. Ezhilarasi, Department of Aquaculture coordinated the event.
