“Engine Maintenance and Sea Safety for Mechanized Fishing Vessel Operators” – One week Training Programme Inaugural Function

With the view to utilize the banned fishing period (April 15 2019 to June 15 2019) useful to the fishermen, Fisheries College and Research Institute (FC&RI) which is a constituent unit of Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University is conducting series of training programmes on   “Engine Maintenance and sea safety for mechanized Fishing vessel operators”. So far 100 fishermen have been trained under four training programmes. The fifth training program was inaugurated by Thoothukudi District Collector, Mr. Sandeep Nanduri, I.A.S. on 07.06.2019. Dr. N. Neethiselvan, Professor and Head, Centre for Incubation and Vocational Training in Fisheries (CIVF) of FC&RI, Thoothukudi welcomed the gathering. He briefed the content of the training program which included marine engine maintenance, dismantling and assembling of marine diesel engine, handling of navigational equipments, lifesaving appliances, marine electronic equipments, first aid at sea and sea safety.

During the inaugural address, the Collector appreciated the timely effort taken by the CIVF of the FC&RI, Thoothukudi and advised the participants to make use of the trainings being provided by this Institute. Further, he appreciated the TNJFU for starting a new course namely B.Tech. (Fisheries Nautical Technology) during this academic year. He added that fishermen must make use of this course for their children’s education for professional upliftment.

Dr. P. Velayutham, Dean i/c., Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi presided over the function. In his presidential address, he appreciated the fishermen for their interest in attending the training programmes being organized by the Institute. He added that this type training would be continued in the years to come also.  

 Mr. T. Ravikumar, Assistant Professor, DFT&FE, FC&RI, Thoothukudi delivered the vote of thanks. Mr. A. Karthy, Senior Research Fellow, CIVF coordinated the entire inaugural function.
