Orientation Programme for B.F.Sc 2019-20 batch at Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi

The orientation programme for 2019-20 batch students of B.F.Sc programme was conducted on 04.09.2019 at Fisheries College and Research Institute (FC&RI), Thoothukudi, a constituent unit of Tamil Nadu Dr.J.Jayalalithaa Fisheries University, Nagapattinam. This year a total of 63 students (30 boys and 33 girls) have been admitted for B.F.Sc. programme at Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi through the counselling process conducted last month. The freshers were given rousing welcome by the Dean, faculty staff and second year B.F.Sc students at the college entrance gate with bouquet and sweets. They also guided the parents and their wards to the place of registration and hostels. The programme was initiated by Dr. P. Velayutham, Dean in-charge, who extended a warm welcome to parents and students. In his welcome address, he explained the genesis of the college and explained the status of the alumni of this prestigious institute. Further, he added that the campus is free from ragging. The speech was followed by a session on academic rules and scholarships by Mrs.D.Manimekalai, Assistant Professor and Student’s Co-ordinator. Mr.F.Parthiban, Warden explained hostel rules and regulations. The Vice President of Student’s Association, Dr.S.David Kingston, Professor and Head detailed the college activities and achievements. Sports, NSS and Library activities were also explained by the Dr.D.Natarajan, Assistant Director of Physical Education, Mr.T.Ravikumar, NSS coordinator and Mr.R.Kumaresan, Deputy Librarian respectively. Several parents actively interacted and clarified their doubts such as job opportunities, course details, fellowship and other facilities. As a part of the orientation programme, tree plantation was also done by the first year students and parents along with Dean, faculty staff and NSS Coordinator. Dr.D.Natarajan, the Students Counsellor proposed the vote of thanks.
