Every year December 5 th is celebrated as World Soil Day to mark the importance of soil as a critical component of the natural system and as a vital contributor to the human well being through food, water and energy. As per the recommendations of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, World Soil Day was celebrated at Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi on 05.12.2019 coordinated by the Department of Aquatic Environment Management. Dr.V.Rani, Assistant Professor and Head, Dept. of Aquatic Environment Management welcomed the gathering. Dr. B.Sundaramooorthi, Dean in his presidential address highlighted the importance of celebrating soil health day and responsibility of an every individual to prevent soil erosion in a natural system. Dr.Cheryl Antony, Professor and Head, Department of Aquaculture in her keynote address highlighted the practical application of soil health and its improvement in aquaculture. Topics such as the importance of soil health in aquaculture, bottom soil quality management in aquaculture systems were delivered by the faculties of the department. A total of 22 farmers from various places of Thoothukudi district were benefited through this programme. Mrs.D.Manimekalai, Assistant Professor coordinated the event and proposed the vote of thanks.
