Organized a National Webinar on “Sea turtle conservation strategies and its implications in India”

A National Level Webinar on “Sea turtle conservation strategies and its implications in India” was organized by the Department of Fisheries Biology and Resource Management of Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi through hybrid mode on 23.05.2022 from 10.00 AM to 3.30 PM in commemoration of “The World Turtle Day” under Junior Teacher Research Fellowship Scheme (2022). The objective of the National webinar was to create awareness on the need for conservation of sea turtles and strategies to be followed for improving the stocks of sea turtles among the various stakeholders of marine fisheries sector.

Mr.C. Sudhan, Assistant Professor, Department of Fisheries Biology and Resource Management, TNJFU-FCRI, Thoothukudi delivered the welcome address.

Dr.R. Santhakumar, Dean (i/c), TNJFU-FCRI, Thoothukudi delivered presidential address and enlightened the importance of marking The World Turtle Day. He revealed that the World Turtle Day is an annual observance occurring every May 23 rd which began in 2000 and is sponsored by the American Tortoise Rescue. The day was created as a yearly observance to help people around the globe to protect turtles & tortoises and their disappearing habitats as well as to encourage human action to help them survive and thrive in future.

Dr. G. Sugumar, Vice-Chancellor, TNJFU, Nagapattinam delivered chief guest address. He spoke about the ecosystem, roles played by the sea turtles, importance of existence of sea turtles to the well-being of the ecosystems and human beings. He pointed out the roles of various stakeholders like fishers, scientists, teachers, students, various central and state institutes, implementing agencies for improving the stocks of turtle species. In addition, he congratulated the faculty of the Department of Fisheries Biology and Resource Management for organizing the webinar during the need of the hour.

The following eminent speakers delivered lectures and shared their experiences regarding conservation and management of sea turtles.

1. Sea turtles Resources and its conservation by Dr. R. Saravanan, Senior Scientist, Mandapam Regional Centre of ICAR-CMFRI, Mandapam.

2. Conservation and management of endangered animals & sea food tradeby Mr. S. Ashokumar, Deputy Director, MPEDA, Thoothukudi.

3. Responsible fishing operations with special reference to Turtle Excluder Device by Dr. V.R.Madhu, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIFT, Kochi.

4. International and National initiatives taken for the conservation of sea turtles by Dr. N. Jayakumar, Associate Professor and Head, DFBRM, TNJFU-FC&RI, Thoothukudi.

The programme was attended by more than 100 registered participants belonging to research institutes, community of fisherfolk, seafood exporters, processors, state fisheries departments, students etc., across the country.

இந்தியாவில் கடல் ஆமை வள மற்றும் பாதுகாப்பு உத்திகள் நுணுக்கங்கள் மற்றும் அதனால் ஏற்படக்கூடிய தாக்கங்கள்” என்ற தலைப்பில் தேசிய அளவிலான இணையவழி கருத்தரங்கு 23.05.2022 அன்று காலை 10.00 மணி முதல் பிற்பகல் 3.30 மணி வரை மீன்வள உயிரியல் மற்றும் வள மேலாண்மைத் துறை மீன்வளக் கல்லூரி மற்றும் ஆராய்ச்சி நிலையத்தால் ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டது.

இளநிலை ஆசிரியர் ஆராய்ச்சி நிதியுதவித் திட்டம்-2022ன் கீழ் 23 மே 2022 அன்று உலக ஆமை தினத்தை நினைவு கூறும் வகையில் தேசிய அளவிலான இணையவழி கருத்தரங்கு நடைப்பெற்றது.

முனைவர். ந. ஜெயக்குமார் இணைப் பேராசிரியர் மற்றும் தலைவர் மீன்வள உயிரியல் மற்றும் வள மேலாண்மைத் துறை மீன்வளக் கல்லூரி மற்றும் ஆராய்ச்சி நிலையம் ] தூத்துக்குடி அவர்கள் ஒருங்கிணைப்பாளராகவும் திரு.ரா. துரைராஐh உதவி பேராசிரியர் மீன்வள உயிரியல் மற்றும் வள மேலாண்மைத் துறை மீன்வளக் கல்லூரி மற்றும் ஆராய்ச்சி நிலையம் தூத்துக்குடி அவர்கள் தொழில்நுட்ப உதவியாளராகவும் திரு.ச. சுதன் உதவிப் பேராசிரியர் மீன்வள உயிரியல் மற்றும் வள மேலாண்மைத் துறை மீன்வளக் கல்லூரி மற்றும் ஆராய்ச்சி நிலையம் தூத்துக்குடி அவர்கள் செயலாளராகவும் இருந்து இவ்விணைய வழி கருத்தரங்கினை நடத்தினர்.

இந்நிகழ்;ச்சியில் திரு.ச. சுதன்  உதவிப் பேராசிரியர் மீன்வள உயிரியல் மற்றும் வள மேலாண்மைத் துறை அவர்கள் பங்கேற்பாளர்களை வரவேற்று வரவேற்புரை நிகழ்த்தினார். தூத்துக்குடி மீன்வளக் கல்லூரி மற்றும் ஆராய்ச்சி நிலைய முதல்வர் (பொறுப்பு) முனைவர். இரா.சாந்தகுமார் அவர்கள் தலைமையுரை வழங்கினார். அவ்வுரையில்  உலக ஆமை தினம் கடந்த 2000-ம் ஆண்டிலிருந்து ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் மே 23ம் தேதியன்று அனுசரிக்கப்படுகிறது. இந்த தினமானது அமெரிக்க ஆமை மீட்பு அமைப்பின் உதவியுடன் அனுசரிக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது. உலகெங்கிலும் உள்ள மக்களுக்கு ஆமைகள்; மற்றும் அவற்றின் வாழ்விடங்களைப் பாதுகாப்பதற்கும் எதிர்காலத்தில் அவை உயிர்வாழவும் செழித்து வளரவும் உதவும் மனித நடவடிக்கைகளை ஊக்குவிக்கவும் ஆண்டுதோறும் அனுசரிக்கப்படும் நாளாக இந்த நாள் உருவாக்கப்பட்டதாகவும் கூறினார்.

இந்நிகழ்ச்சியில் முனைவர் கோ. சுகுமார் துணைவேந்தர் தமிழ்நாடு டாக்டர் nஐ. nஐயலலிதா மீன்வளப் பல்கலைக்கழகம் நாகப்பட்டினம் அவர்கள் சிறப்புரையாற்றினார். அவர் தம் உரையில் கடல் ஆமைகளின் பங்கு மற்றும் சுற்றுச்சூழல் அமைப்பில் அவற்றின் முக்கியத்துவம் அவற்றின் இனங்கள் பன்முகத்தன்மை மற்றும் விநியோகம் இந்திய கடற்கரையில் நிகழ்வு மற்றும் மிகுதியாக இருப்பது மற்றும் இந்தியாவில் பாதுகாப்பு தாக்கங்கள் குறித்துப் பேசி இக்கருத்தரங்கினை துவக்கி வைத்தார்.

இந்த தேசிய கருத்தரங்கில் பங்கேற்று தங்களது விரிவுரைகளை வழங்கிய விரிவுரையாளர்கள் மற்றும் அவர்களின் தலைப்புகள் பின்வருமாறு
