ORGANISED A WORKSHOP ON “BLUE GROWTH INITIATIVES TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE FISHERIES FOR FUTURE” IN COMMEMORATION OF THE WORLD FISHERIES DAY’2022

The fisheries fraternity of the world has been organizing the World Fisheries Day on every 21 st November since 1997. The World Forum on Fish Harvesters and Fisheries Workers met in New Delhi, and the World Fisheries Forum was established with representatives from 18 countries and signed a declaration advocating for a global mandate of sustainable fishing practices and policies. The World Fisheries Day demonstrates solidarity with all fishermen, aquaculture, and affected stakeholders worldwide. The purpose is to draw attention to habitat destruction, overfishing, and other serious threats to the sustainability of marine and inland stocks. In this connection, a workshop on “Blue Growth Initiatives towards Sustainable Fisheries for Future” was organized in commemoration of the World Fisheries Day’ 22 by the Department of Fisheries Biology and Resource Management, Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi. In the workshop, there were four lectures on “Current status of marine fisheries of India”, “Responsible Fishing”, “Marine biodiversity and sustainable fisheries management” and “Conservation and management of threatened marine fish species of India”, delivered by Eminent Scientist Dr. L. Ranjith, CMFRI, Thoothukudi and Professors namely Dr. N. Jayakumar, Dr. N. Neethiselvan, and Dr.V.K. Venkataramani of this institute. A total of 125 persons including fishermen, fisherwomen, teaching faculty and students took part in the workshop. There was a good deliberation between the experts and participants. Earlier, the inauguration of the workshop was held at 10.00 AM. Dr.N.Jayakumar, Associate professor and Head, DFBRM welcomed the gathering, Dr. V. K. Venkataramani, Adjunct Professor delivered felicitation address and Dr. B. Ahilan, Dean, Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi delivered inaugural address, highlighting the theme of the World Fisheries Day’ 22 and emphasizing the importance of aquatic ecosystems and the need for addressing the problems and challenges faced by the stakeholders of the fishing industry. Later, at the end of the workshop, Mr. R. Duraraja, Assistant Professor and Organising Secretary, proposed the vote of thanks and Mr. C. Sudhan, Assistant Professor and Technical Coordinator served as Master of Ceremony.

உலக மீன்வள தினமானது 1997ம் ஆண்டு முதல் ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் நவம்பர் மாதம் 21ம் தேதி கடைபிடிக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது. உலக மீனவர்கள் மற்றும் மீன்பிடி தொழிலாளர்களுக்கான பேரவையின் 18 நாடுகளின் பிரதிநிதிகள் கலந்து கொண்ட கூட்டமானது புதுடெல்லியில் 1997ம் ஆண்டு நடைபெற்றபொழுது மீன்களின் வாழிட அழிவு பொறுப்பற்ற வரம்புமீறிய மீன்பிடித்தல் கடல் மற்றும் உள்நாட்டு மீன் இருப்புகளின் நிலைத்தன்மைக்கு ஏற்படும் பிற தீவிர அச்சுறுத்தல்கள் குறித்து கவனத்தை பொருட்டு உலக மீன்வள தினம் உருவாக்கப்பட்டது. இதன் அடிப்படையில் “எதிர்காலத்திற்கான வளங்குன்றா மீன்வளத்தை நோக்கிய நீலப்புரட்சிக்கான முன்முயற்சிகள்” என்ற தலைப்பில் கருத்துப்பட்டறை 21.11.2022 அன்று நடைபெற்றது. இக்கருத்துப்பட்டறையில் இத்துறையைச் சார்ந்த வல்லுநர்களைக் கொண்டு கடல்மீன்வளத்தின் தற்போதைய நிலை அழிந்து வரும் அச்சுருத்தலுக்கான மீன்களின் பாதுகாப்பு மற்றும் மேலாண்மை பொறுப்பான மீன்பிடி முறை கடல் உயிரின பல்வகைமை மற்றும் நிலையான மீன்வள மேலாண்மை போன்ற தலைப்புகளின் கீழ் சிறப்பு விரிவுரையாளர்கள் உரையாற்றினர். சிறப்பு விரிவுரையாளர்களான முனைவர் வை.கி.வெங்கடரமணி முன்னாள் முதல்வர் (ஓய்வு) முனைவர் நா. ஜெயகுமார் இணைப்பேராசிரியர் மற்றும் தலைவர் மீன்வள உயிரியல் மற்றும் மேலாண்மைத் துறை முனைவர் எல். ரஞ்சித் வேளாண் அறிவியல் விஞ்ஞானி மத்திய கடல் மீன்வள ஆராய்ச்சி நிறுவனம் தூத்துக்குடி ஆகியோர் வருகை தந்து சிறப்பித்தனர். இந்நிகழ்ச்சியில் மீனவர்கள் மீனவப் பெண்கள் பேராசிரியர்கள் மற்றும் மாணாக்கர்கள் மற்றும் 125 பங்கேற்பாளர்கள் கலந்து கொண்டனர். கருத்துப்பட்டறையின் துவக்கநிகழ்ச்சியானது காலை 10.00 மணிக்கு துவங்கியது. முனைவர் நா.ஜெயக்குமார் அவர்கள் வாழ்த்துரை வழங்கினார். இக்கல்லூரியின் முதல்வர் முனைவர் ப. அகிலன் துவக்க விழா உரையாற்றினார். மேலும் அவர் நீலப்புரட்சியை நோக்கிய மீன்வளத்தின் முக்கியத்துவத்தையும் வளங்குன்றா மீன்வளத்தை நோக்கி முன்னேறும் வழிகளையும் விளக்கினார். தொடக்க உரையை தொடர்ந்து முன்னாள் முதல்வர் வை.கி.வெங்கடரமணி அவர்கள் சிறப்புரையாற்றினார். மீன்வள உயிரியல் மற்றும் வளமேலாண்மைத்துறையின் உதவிப்பேராசிரியர் திரு.ரா.துரைராஜா அவர்கள் விழாவிற்கான செயல்பாடுகளை செய்து நன்றியுரை ஆற்றினார். இத்துறையின் உதவிப்பேராசிரியர் திரு.சுதன் அவர்கள் தொகுத்து வழங்கினார்.
