Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi organized a three days
training programme on “Open sea cage culture for augmenting fish production”
from 13.03.2024 to 15.03.2024 for the benefit of scheduled community. A total of
25 scheduled caste community beneficiaries from the rural area of Thoothukudi
attended the training programme. This programme was organized by the Department of
Fisheries Extension, Economics and Statistics of this institute. The valedictory
programme was organized on 15.03.2024. Dr. B.Ahilan, Dean presided over the
function and emphasized the importance of open sea cage culture and its culture
technologies for genesis the higher production. Dr.N.V.Sujathkumar, Professor and
Head welcomed the gathering. During the training programme, the classes such as
selection of suitable marine finfish and shell fish for culture in open sea cages, open sea
cage culture technologies, hands on demonstration on making cages and installation at
open sea, identification, habit, classification, biology of fishes to open sea cage culture,
diseases in open sea cage cultured fishes and its management, site selection, water
quality and its importance in open sea cage culture technology, harvest, marketing and
economics of open sea cage culture technology were handled and demonstrated.
