In the eve of 72nd Independence Day celebration at Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University, Nagapattinam, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr. S. Felix hoisted the national flag at TNJFU Administrative building, Panangudi on 15th August 2018. In this occasion, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor delivered his Independence Day speech, emphasised the gathering to focus on the positive aspects of Independent India and informed the faculty and students to sensitize themselves in the major issues faced in our country such as population, poverty and climate changes. He requested all the university officers to vigorously adopt the new initiatives introduced by TNJFU such as clean campus, green campus and cash less transaction in their respective campus and research centres to promote the Prime Minister schemes. He elaborated the various efforts taken by TNJFU administration such as starting of new degree course B.Tech (Food Technology) and para professional courses at various locations in order to bridge the demand supply gap existing in the skilled and technical manpower required in the fisheries sector. He also described the initiatives taken by the university such as introduction of students READY programme in all the courses to enhance the employability skills of fishery graduates and advised the students to make use of the opportunity available in the campus and work towards the better Independent India. Followed by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor speech students delivered talk on “Current Scenario in Independent India”. Further, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor distributed the awards for best performer of the year 2018 in various categories. Dr. S. Balasubramanian, Dean, College of Fisheries Engineering welcome the gathering and Er. D. Babiyola, Assistant Professor, College of Fisheries Engineering proposed vote of thanks. More than 250 persons including University Officers, Teaching faculty, non-teaching staff, teaching assistants, contractual staff and students attended this programme.
