Report on the Special Address Program

The Special Address Program on “Aquatic Food System & Overseas Opportunities” was conducted at TNJFU - Institute of Fisheries Post Graduate Studies, OMR, Chennai on 25th July 2025. The session began with a welcome address by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, TNJFU, Dr. N. Felix, who also introduced the University's ongoing research areas of PG and Ph.D. students to the guest speaker. The Dean of Basic Sciences, IFPGS, Dr. A. Uma introduced the chief guest Dr. C. V. Mohan (Former Principal Scientist, WorldFish – CGIAR, Penang, Malaysia; R&D Manager, NACA, Bangkok; Professor, College of Fisheries, Mangalore). The session focused on the growing relevance of aquatic food systems in addressing global challenges of food security, nutritional needs, environmental sustainability, and human health. The lecture highlighted the need for transformation in current food systems by integrating innovative technologies, sustainable practices, and a One Health approach. Additionally, Dr. Mohan elaborated on the global career and research opportunities available for young researchers in the aquatic food sector and emphasized the need for “One Food System – One Health”, combining crop, livestock, and aquatic systems for sustainable food security. The lecture encouraged young researchers to pursue innovative, interdisciplinary research and international opportunities to address emerging challenges in aquatic food systems. A total of 250 participants from diverse academic and research backgrounds attended the program, making it highly interactive and impactful. The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Dean (Basic Sciences), IFPGS.
