International Workshop on Aqua Nutrition (IWAN 2026)

Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University (TNJFU) successfully organized the International Workshop on Aqua Nutrition (IWAN 2026) on 5 th and 6 th February 2026 at Hotel Ramada Plaza, Guindy, Chennai, India. The workshop was co-organised by National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) and TNJFU Alumni Network, reflecting a strong collaborative effort between academia, government, and industry stakeholders.

The workshop was formally inaugurated by Dr. N. Subbaiyan, IAS, Secretary toGovernment, Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries and Fisheries Welfare Department, Government of Tamil Nadu.

Dr. N. Felix, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of TNJFU and the Patron & Workshop Chair of IWAN 2026 welcomed the gathering. The inaugural session was further enriched by the presence of Dr. Albert Tacon, Founder and Owner of Aquahana, USA, who graced
the occasion and delivered a felicitation address, highlighting global perspectives and advancements in aqua nutrition. Mr. S. Chankrasekar, TNJFU Alumni & Chairman, Organizing Committee was also present during the inaugural session.

An MoU between TNJFU and NOFIMA, Norway was exchanged for students internship, faculty & students research. Souvenir was released to commemorate the IWAN 2026 event.

The two-day international workshop witnessed the participation of a diverse group of stakeholders, including international speakers, aquaculture nutritionists, representatives from aquafeed companies, aquaculture stakeholders, academicians, industry professionals, research scholars, and students.

The technical program comprised eight technical sessions, covering a wide range of themes related to aqua nutrition. A special session was exclusively dedicated to young researchers from various institutions across the country, providing them an opportunity to present their research findings and interact with senior scientists and industry experts. The workshop served as a vibrant platform for interaction and knowledge exchange among experts from India and abroad.

The presentations and deliberations during IWAN 2026 provided valuable insights into recent developments, innovative feed ingredients, sustainable nutrition strategies, feed formulation technologies, and future challenges in aqua nutrition. The
workshop significantly contributed to enhancing knowledge, fostering collaborations, and strengthening the link between research and industry in the aquaculture sector.

Dr. A. Uma, Convener of IWAN 2026, summarized the deliberations and highlighted that the workshop was a highly successful event, reinforcing TNJFU’s commitment to advancing aquaculture science and promoting sustainable fisheries development at both national and international levels and concluded with a vote of
thanks.
